Rohit Shetty was born on 14 March 1974 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, into a family with strong connections to the Hindi film industry. His father, M. B. Shetty, was a well-known stuntman and actor who worked extensively in Bollywood. Growing up around films and stunt performances exposed Rohit to the world of cinema from an early age and helped shape his interest in filmmaking and action.
Rohit Shetty experienced both the opportunities and challenges that came with growing up in a film family. His father’s career had a significant influence on him, particularly his fascination with action sequences and filmmaking. Rather than immediately becoming a director, Rohit began his career behind the scenes, learning the practical aspects of film production and working his way up through the industry.
As a young man, Shetty started working as an assistant director, gaining valuable experience on film sets. One of his early notable experiences came while working on Ajay Devgn’s Phool Aur Kaante in 1991. These early years gave him an understanding of direction, action choreography and filmmaking, eventually laying the foundation for his career as one of Bollywood’s most commercially successful directors.
Rohit Shetty Education
Rohit Shetty completed his schooling in Mumbai, Maharashtra, where he spent his formative years before entering the Hindi film industry. Details about his specific school and academic qualifications are not widely documented in reliable public sources, so his educational background is generally described in broad terms.
Unlike many professionals who pursue a long academic path before beginning their careers, Shetty entered the film industry at a relatively young age. His early exposure to filmmaking and his family’s connection to Bollywood played an important role in shaping his career ambitions, and he chose to gain practical experience on film sets.
Much of Rohit Shetty’s professional education came through hands-on experience in filmmaking. Working as an assistant director allowed him to learn about direction, production, action sequences and the technical aspects of filmmaking. This practical training eventually helped him transition into directing and develop the distinctive action-comedy style that became a defining feature of his career.
Rohit Shetty Career
Rohit Shetty began his career in Bollywood behind the camera, working as an assistant director while he was still young. One of his early experiences was working on Ajay Devgn’s Phool Aur Kaante in 1991. He continued gaining practical experience on film sets, learning the fundamentals of direction, production and action filmmaking. His early years in the industry helped him develop the technical knowledge and confidence that would later define his career as a director.
In 2003, Shetty made his directorial debut with the action film Zameen, starring Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu. Although the film did not become a major commercial success, it established Shetty as a director and gave him an opportunity to demonstrate his interest in action-driven storytelling. His partnership with Ajay Devgn also became one of the most important professional relationships of his career.
Shetty achieved his major breakthrough with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006). The comedy film, starring Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Tusshar Kapoor and other ensemble cast members, became successful and eventually developed into one of Bollywood’s most recognizable comedy franchises. Its success led to sequels including Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3, Golmaal Again and later Golmaal 5 developments, establishing Shetty as a major commercial filmmaker.
Alongside comedy, Shetty became particularly known for his larger-than-life action films. His 2011 film Singham, starring Ajay Devgn as police officer Bajirao Singham, became a major success and established the foundation for what would later become the Rohit Shetty Cop Universe. The success of Singham was followed by Singham Returns in 2014, further strengthening the character and Shetty’s reputation for combining action, drama and mass entertainment.
Shetty expanded his Cop Universe with Simmba (2018), starring Ranveer Singh as police officer Sangram Bhalerao. The film connected with audiences through its mixture of comedy, action and emotional storytelling and introduced another major police character into Shetty’s interconnected film franchise. In 2019, he followed this with Sooryavanshi, starring Akshay Kumar, which brought together characters from Singham and Simmba and turned the Cop Universe into one of Bollywood’s most prominent interconnected film franchises.
Beyond filmmaking, Rohit Shetty became a familiar television personality through Khatron Ke Khiladi, the Indian adaptation of the stunt-based reality format. He has hosted multiple seasons of the show and became particularly associated with its dangerous stunts, challenges and high-energy presentation. His role as host helped broaden his popularity beyond cinema and made him a recognizable television figure.
In 2024, Shetty returned to his Cop Universe with Singham Again, featuring Ajay Devgn alongside an ensemble cast that included Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff and Arjun Kapoor. The film continued the franchise’s interconnected storyline and became one of the major Hindi film releases of the year.
By 2026, Rohit Shetty continued to remain active in television and entertainment, including his role as host of Khatron Ke Khiladi 15. His career, spanning more than three decades, has established him as one of Bollywood’s leading commercial directors, particularly known for action spectacles, comedy franchises, police dramas and films designed for mass audiences.

Rohit Shetty’s net worth is estimated at around ₹280–300 crore as of 2026, although there is no officially disclosed figure from Shetty himself or an audited public record. Earlier media reports estimated his wealth at approximately ₹280 crore, while more recent celebrity-finance reports place it around ₹300 crore. Because these figures are estimates, the ₹280–300 crore range is more appropriate for a biography than presenting a single number as confirmed fact.
A major portion of Shetty’s income comes from his work as a film director and producer. Entertainment reports have previously stated that he charges around ₹18 crore to direct a film, although his actual remuneration can vary depending on the project and whether he participates in production and profits. He also earns through his production company, television work, advertisements and other entertainment projects. Some reports have previously estimated his annual income at around ₹38–40 crore, but this should also be treated as an industry estimate rather than an official salary.
Television and brand endorsements provide additional sources of income for Shetty. He has been a long-time host of Khatron Ke Khiladi, while reports have previously suggested that he can command around ₹5 crore for a brand endorsement. His continued work in Bollywood, television and production, combined with the commercial success of franchises such as Golmaal and the Cop Universe, has helped make him one of India’s most financially successful commercial filmmakers. Therefore, for SEO purposes, ₹280–300 crore is a reasonable estimated net-worth range for Rohit Shetty in 2026, rather than an exact verified figure.
